From the midst of the Super power sport motorcycles and power pact street fighters, a young power machine came up. The tiny yet aggressive motorcycle showed up in the brand name Yamaha and was tagged as Yamaha YZF R3. Equipping with a massive 321cc engine, the little power machine stands head-to-head with its rivals like the Kawasaki Ninja 300R, the Honda CBR 300R and the KTM Duke 390.
Yamaha had plans to launch the all new YZF R3 from the very beginning of the year 2015. Soon after the official launch of the mighty beast, the super power sport motorcycle, the 2015 Yamaha YZF R1 and the Yamaha YZF R1M, the official announcement of the YZF R3 was made.
Design and style of the motorcycle goes similar to that of the YZF series of sport motorcycle from the company. The Yamaha R3 has similar design elements and components equivalent to that of the R25 and the R15. The best affordable sports motorcycle comes with a heavy metal cast body fairing and an aerodynamic structure. The overall design and structure of the motorcycle is mounted over a diamond frame. Frame type of the motorcycle is best suitable for carrying the massive engine block and other control systems of the motorcycle. Yamaha Super sport inspired styling with a full fairing built over a chassis makes it perfect for the first time riders or even the experienced ones.
The R3 is a correct choice for those riders who prefer a lightweight and nimble power machine. The forged pistons just like that of the Yamaha R1 and the R6 are both lightweight and provides power and stamina at high performance and power ratios. R3 comes with a split seating facility, a separate seating for both the rider and the passenger, as seen in the R series of motorcycle from the company. Riding position of the vehicle is one of the phenomenal features which makes it a distinctive ride from among the other motorcycle of its kind. Sporty riding position of the motorcycle enhances the seating position of the riders and renders a comfortable riding experience to the later. Legendary R-series styling and performance are inherent with the YZF-R3. Great styling matched to excellent engine performance and chassis design are the hallmarks of Yamaha’s R-series and YZF-R3 carries on the heritage with great results.
Control systems of the motorcycle include the engine and other balance assisting features such as the braking, suspension and tyre features. A newly designed steel frame and swing arm suspension system of the motorcycle enhances the riding and balance of the motorcycle even when the road conditions are bad. The ten spoke aluminium cast front and rear wheel of the motorcycle ensures rigidity in ride. Braking system of the Yamaha R3 comes with a set of standard options for the callipers installed on the wheels of the motorcycle. A powerful 298mm floating mount front disc brake ensure excellent stopping power while a 220mm floating disc handles the braking performance on the rear section of the motorcycle. A multi-function meter helps the rider by informing about the position of the gear, fuel tank capacity, real time and average fuel consumption of the motorcycle, water temperature, time, tripmeters, oil change indicator lights etc...
A massive 321cc twin cylinder engine of the motorcycle offers a massive volume of power and performance for the riders. Engine of the R3 makes it a comfortable ride machine even when there are lot of twist on the road, even when there is a mass amount of traffic and each time it hits an open road. Newly developed liquid cooled, In-line, 2 cylinder DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, fuel-injected engine delivers a jaw dropping power and performance from the tiny little heart of this young beauty.
With a compression ratio of 11.2:1, the engine has the capacity to deliver a maximum power of 41.4 Bhp at the rate of 11,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 30.1 Nm at 10,000 rpm. A six-speed constant mesh transmission system of the motorcycle helps the rider to change the gears in a pretty quick gear shift pattern, which in turn raves the motorcycle to gain a maximum speed limit of 180 kmph. An excellent strength is derived from the forged aluminium piston of the motorcycle, the same technology as in the Yamaha R1 and the R6, makes the motorcycle lightweight and provide a higher strength at higher temperatures when the offset cylinders reduce the total horsepower of the motorcycle.
Pure balance and rigidity of the motorcycle is ensured with the chassis and other system of the vehicle such as the suspension system, which is assisted by a front 41mm KYB® telescopic fork; 5.1 in of travel and a rear KYB® single shock; 4.9 in of travel system to enhance the mobility of the motorcycle at high performance and speed limits. Braking system of the motorcycle is installed with a front 298mm Hydraulic brake callipers and a rear 220mm Hydraulic brake callipers. The braking system allows quick braking facility for the motorcycle at higher speed limits or just before an impact. Yamaha R3, like all other rivals in its category, has not compromised when it comes to the tyre specification of the motorcycle. The motorcycle uses an 110/70-17M/C 54H in the front and a rear 140/70-17M/C 66H tyre. A pair of ten spoke aluminium cast alloy tubeless tyre in the front and rear section of the motorcycle helps in balanced and stable ride experience of the motorcycle.
The Yamaha YZF R3 comes in mainly three colour variants like the, Raven, Yamaha Blue with Matte Silver and Rapid Red, all of which will be made available officially by March 2015. Price of the Yamaha YZF R3 is tagged at a rate of $4,990 officially by the company.
In brief, the Yamaha YZF R3 is one such motorcycle which comes with a lot of surprises hold tight inside a tiny little space. The heart of the R3 is the base for all the power involved in the motorcycle. Standing head-to-head against its rivals in the 300cc two wheeler segment, the Yamaha scores a bit higher points and scores and overall higher position than the motorcycles in its class.
